My name is Mvikeli Clement Mnisi, an Actuarial Science student at Wits university. I am from a rural area in Mpumalanga called Buffelspruit under the Nkomazi municipality, I come from a family of 9, I am the sixth born at home. I grew up in Buffelspruit and did my primary school at Loti Primary School and my grade 8 at Phuza-Ulwazi Academy and then went on to complete the rest of my high school at Njeyeza Secondary School which are all local schools in our area.
I completed my matric in 2021 and obtained 6 distinctions and an award for being position 2 in the top 20 mathematics and physical sciences Quintile 1-3 schools in Ehlanzeni District. Growing up I have always been interested in the financial world and loved working with numbers and doing strategic problem solving and that is when I discovered Actuarial Science and decided to pursue it. I was then fortunate enough to be admitted to Wits university to pursue the course and that is where I got to know about SAADP and became a part of the SAADP family.
Being a part of SAADP has helped me get more exposure to the financial world and get to know more about what Actuarial Science is and what it is about, and I am also grateful to the support and understanding they have shown to me when it comes my academics and mental health, I highly recommend SAADP to other students and to those still in high school who want to pursue Actuarial Sciences.
In the future I want to use the skills and expertise I am still to acquire as I prolong my Actuarial Sciences journey to make a positive impact in the South African economy and give back to my community and to also make valuable to contributions to Actuarial Sciences in this country. I encourage those who are interested in Actuarial Sciences to work hard and believe in themselves, it is possible and regardless of who you are and where you are from you can do it.
