I thank SAADP for their profound impact on my life – both personally and professionally. It’s Nelson Mandela that said, “what counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived, it is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead. “
Your impact will be spoken about for many years to come.
I vividly remember meeting SAADP at the SAICA Thuthuka Camp in the small town of Sabie in Mpumalanga in 2008 – a grace encounter as I’ve come to reflect on it.
I knew quite early that I wanted to become an actuary – but the “how” was always charged with so many unknowns. It didn’t help that I didn’t have a plethora of actuaries ripe for picking in Mpumalanga to really find out more about the profession from. Even more dire, there were less than a handful of actuaries in the whole country, if not continent, that looked anything like me.
The journey from a naïve scholarship student in 2010 to a fully qualified actuary in 2017 still leaves me in awe. I am most grateful that I met SAADP that day – and I am most proud to be part of this family. You’ve made such a lasting impression that your contributions inspire all of us to strive for the betterment of society.
You’ve transformed the entire actuarial field in so many ways – and while there is runway for further transformation, the building blocks you’ve established will propel that vision you set out to achieve 20 years forward, irrespective of who assumes the directorship seat.
I just wanted to sincerely thank you. Thank you for having seen me, for investing a lot of your time in me, and for making sure that one day, I too, get counted.
